On July 30th, thousands of supporters of public education will converge at the Ellipse in DC for a Rally and March to the White House to demand an end to the destructive policies that are demoralizing teachers, dismantling public education, and placing corporate interests ahead of the needs of children. Fed up with government attacks on public education and the scapegoating of teachers for social problems, participants in the Save Our Schools March will insist on 1) Equitable funding for all public school communities, 2) An end to high stakes testing used for the purpose of student, teacher, and school evaluation, 3) Teacher, family and community leadership in forming public education policies, and 4) Curriculum developed for and by local school communities. Speakers and March participants will include Matt Damon, Diane Ravitch, Jonathan Kozol, Deborah Meier, Taylor Mali, and Linda Darling-Hammond.
The Rally/March is part of a National Call to Action that includes a 2 day Advocacy Conference, a week long Documentary Film Festival at American University, and events held in cities throughout the US.
